The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia is driving forward the digitalisation of the transport infrastructure in North Rhine-Westphalia, in particular by modernising the traffic light systems (LSA) of the Road Construction Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia (Straßen.NRW). As part of the digitalisation process, the aim is to modernise around 5,500 traffic lights on federal and state roads and connect them to a higher-level digital platform. This platform should enable central monitoring and control, improved maintenance, and ultimately optimised traffic management.
The project ‘Digitalisation of the traffic lights of Straßen.NRW’, which is divided into three work packages, serves to prepare the implementation:
- Development of a concept for the NRW traffic light centre
- Management of the tendering and awarding of the NRW traffic light centre
- Project management
AlbrechtConsult plays a central role in this project. The tasks include the professional and technical consulting as well as the management of the tender for the digitalisation of the LSA. The focus is on innovative traffic and IT technology solutions. In addition, Trafficon is responsible for project management to ensure the smooth implementation and coordination of all project activities.
These measures are intended to enable cross-state operational monitoring and quality assurance, significantly improving traffic control in NRW.
