Update on the electronic dangerous goods transport document
On 18 September 2026, Christian Lüpges (AlbrechtConsult) and Karl Christoph Strack (GBK Trusted Partner GmbH) provided an update on the electronic dangerous goods transport document at the Dangerous Goods Day organised by BMV and VDA at IAA TRANSPORTATION in Hanover. Under the title “5.4.0.2 ADR/RID/ADN goes eFTI”, their joint presentation examined its further development and its place within the European eFTI environment.
The presentation covered the legal framework and timeline, the technical architecture and practical applications. The speakers showed how electronic dangerous goods data can be made available and accessed by authorities, and explained the transition from existing solutions to the eFTI environment.
They identified key challenges for further implementation: an interoperable European exchange environment with clear responsibilities and coordinated interfaces, eFTI platform certification, and alignment between existing dangerous goods data models and the eFTI dangerous goods dataset. The presentation thus linked an overview of European developments with practical questions concerning dangerous goods transport.
